Marvel Studios appears to have found the leader of its new mutant team. According to multiple entertainment outlets, Kit Connor, best known for playing Nick Nelson in Netflix’s Heartstopper, has been chosen to portray Scott Summers, aka Cyclops, in the studio’s upcoming X-Men reboot.

How the Casting Came Together

Reports indicate that the search for Cyclops followed a process similar to the one that landed Samara Weaving the role of Emma Frost. Director Jake Schreier, fresh off helming Thunderbolts, worked alongside Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige to meet with a shortlist of candidates. A small group of actors reportedly tested for the part shortly after the July 4 holiday, with Connor emerging as the studio’s final pick in the weeks that followed.

Neither Marvel nor representatives for Connor have issued an official comment, but the casting news has been corroborated by several major trade publications, suggesting an official announcement could be close behind.

Building Out the New Mutant Roster

Connor’s casting adds another major name to a rapidly forming ensemble. Marvel had already revealed, through a twist in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, that Sadie Sink would step into the MCU as Jean Grey, Cyclops’s longtime love interest and fellow X-Man. Weaving, known for Ready or Not, has separately been linked to the role of Emma Frost. Additionally, actress Inde Navarrette, who broke out in Obsession, has publicly expressed interest in playing Mystique after meeting with Schreier, though her involvement isn’t yet confirmed.

Cyclops has long been a cornerstone of the X-Men film franchise, previously brought to life by James Marsden across the original trilogy and X-Men: Days of Future Past. Handing the visor to a new generation signals Marvel’s intent to build this iteration of the team from the ground up rather than lean on legacy casting.

Who Is Kit Connor?

At just 22, Connor has built an impressively varied résumé. Beyond his breakout role in Heartstopper, he starred in the 2025 war drama Warfare and has lent his voice to major animated projects, including Brightbill in The Wild Robot and Pantalaimon in HBO’s His Dark Materials. He also has smaller live-action credits in Rocketman and Ready Player One. Looking ahead, Connor is already attached to star in an upcoming film adaptation of the video game Elden Ring, expected in 2028.

The X-Men reboot does not yet have a confirmed release date, though industry chatter points toward 2028, as Marvel Studios reportedly has release slots open around the same window being eyed for its Ryan Gosling-led Ghost Rider project. The script comes from Beef creator Lee Sung Jin and The Bear co-creator Joanna Calo.

Speculation has intensified ahead of Disney’s D23 convention, scheduled for August 14–16, with many fans hoping for a fuller cast reveal at the event. Casting insiders have hinted that additional announcements tied to the mutant team could land around the same time.
