From Newfoundland to the Global Oilfield
Eric Legge’s story begins in Newfoundland, on Canada’s Atlantic coast — a province with deep roots in resource industries and a particular culture of practical, hardworking professionalism. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at the College of the North Atlantic in 2009, a degree that gave him the technical vocabulary to understand complex systems and the instinct to improve them.
His entry point into the energy industry was @Balance, a pioneering company in Managed Pressure Drilling a specialised drilling technique that controls wellbore pressure with precision, enhancing safety and efficiency in conditions where conventional drilling methods simply cannot perform reliably. At @Balance, Eric worked simultaneously in R&D and field operations, an unusual combination that gave him something rare in the industry: a deep understanding of both the theory behind MPD technology and the practical realities of deploying it on active drilling sites under demanding conditions.
It was there, working at the intersection of engineering and field execution, that his career truly began to take shape. He was not just learning how MPD worked. He was learning how it could be improved, automated, and applied to problems the industry had not yet fully recognised as solvable.
The Schlumberger Years: Building Authority Across Borders
In 2011, Schlumberger the world’s largest oilfield services company acquired @Balance. At the time of the acquisition, Eric was already a Senior Field Supervisor, a position that reflected both his technical depth and his capacity to lead under pressure. Rather than being absorbed into the institutional machinery of a corporate giant, he used the acquisition as a launching pad.
He progressed into a Sales-related Operations Management position at Schlumberger, a role that required a fundamentally different kind of intelligence than field engineering. Selling MPD services especially to operators who may be unfamiliar with the technology’s potential demands the ability to translate technical complexity into commercial logic, to explain why a methodology that costs more upfront can deliver dramatically better outcomes over the life of a well. Eric developed this capability while working across 11 countries, accumulating an operational and commercial knowledge base that very few professionals in the MPD space could match.
By the time he left Schlumberger, he was regarded as an authority on MPD, not simply as a technician who understood the equipment, but as a leader who understood the markets, the clients, the regulatory environments, and the competitive dynamics of a global industry. That breadth of experience would prove essential to everything he built next.
Joining Beyond Energy: A Vision Takes Shape
In June 2016, Eric Legge joined Beyond Energy Services and Technology Corp. as Vice President of Operations. The company was newly incorporated, having been founded in 2015, and launched its first project in August 2016, a timing that was deliberately calibrated around the cyclical nature of the oil and gas industry.
The timing was also, by any measure, extremely challenging. The oil and gas industry had entered a prolonged downturn beginning in 2015 that would last until 2021 six years of compressed budgets, project cancellations, and intense pressure on service companies to reduce costs and prove value. Building a new MPD company during one of the worst downturns in the industry’s recent history required a particular kind of conviction.
Eric has been candid about this period. He has described it as the most professionally challenging stretch of his career and simultaneously the most instructive. The adversity, he believes, was not incidental to Beyond Energy’s development. It was formative. Companies that survive difficult markets by continuing to innovate and deliver exceptional service emerge with capabilities and credibility that cannot be manufactured in better times.

In 2024, Eric announced an exclusive supply agreement with Nabors, one of the world’s largest drilling contractors, through which Beyond Energy became the sole provider of RCDs for Nabors’ Integra MPD services. The partnership combined Nabors’ advanced software, automation, and integrated choke systems with Beyond Energy’s RCD technology a collaboration that delivers measurably improved operational efficiency, reduced downtime, and stronger safety performance for customers. That agreement represented both a commercial milestone and an industry validation: one of the world’s largest drilling companies had chosen Beyond Energy as its exclusive technology partner in a critical segment of its MPD operations.
Technology, Sustainability, and the Energy Transition
Perhaps the most compelling dimension of Eric Legge’s leadership is his perspective on where MPD sits within the broader energy transition a perspective that is simultaneously pragmatic and genuinely forward-looking.
He is unambiguous about the continued importance of oil and gas. More significantly, MPD is a demonstrated enabling technology for geothermal well drilling a capability that directly supports the development of clean, renewable energy infrastructure. As the world scales its geothermal capacity, the demand for precisely the kind of advanced MPD expertise that Beyond Energy has built will only grow.
Eric’s vision for the company’s future is built around this convergence.
